Shutting Abronhill High School makes sense, says local activist.

NOT everyone is opposed to the closure of Abronhill High School, according to a Cumbernauld community activist who gave his personal view of the proposals on national radio.

Mike Ogden who is a member of Craigmarloch Community Council spoke to BBC Radio Good Morning Scotland.

When cuts were discussed Mr Ogden stated that there are other good schools nearby that can accommodate the youngsters.

He stressed that his standpoint is ‘‘not necessarily’’ shared by the community council and admitted that none of his own family would be affected by the closure.

While agreeing it was a contentious issue, he added: “Both these high school are both operating well below capacity, according to available figures, 50 per cent and around 60 per cent. This must be highly uneconomical. Perhaps the bottom line should be that we should just welcome the opportunity of providing a brand new, built for 21st century purpose learning environment for our children of the future,” he added.’’
