Strike plan at Cumbernauld tax office
ANOTHER day of industrial action has been scheduled at Cumbernauld’s tax office, it has emerged
More than 2000 workers are set to down tools on Monday (June 25) - but the matter will not end there.
Members of the public service union PCS are intending to impose a strict ban on overtime from the following day, as part of their get-tough approach against cutbacks in the service.
A memo has already been circulated round the building, urging workers to take part in the strike - following a similar day of action last month.
A spokesperson said: “In our ballot, members have voted to support strike action and action short of striking. We are pushing for no further job cuts, an end to private sector involvement at HMRC and no moves beyond reasonable travelling distances.
“We will also look to escalate our action should the department refuse to listen. We are embarking on our biggest ever consultation exercise among our representatives and members to determine our next steps in our campaign
“Our message is this - we are serious about protecting our members’ interests amd we will engage in a serious and determined campaign to defend jobs and services,” added the spokesperson.
Many workers insist that they are on less than £23,000 a year and that the perks involved in working at this key local employer are fast disappearing - something the Goverment has denied.
Members intend to meet with MP Gregg McClymont on Friday (June 22) to discuss their concerns.
