We don’t want Glenn’s death to have been in vain
THE family of a young man who passed away suddenly from an asthma attack hope his death raises awareness of just how serious the condition is.
Glenn Weir was a popular young man who was loved by everyone who came across him.
He always had a joke to share, he was a man who always had time for his friends but he was first and foremost, a treasured member of the Weir family.
Their loss is beyond imaginable, and they hope that their son’s death is not in vain and that other asthma suffers consider just how serious the condition is.
Glenn was diagnosed at two and a half years old after he started wheezing during the Christmas holidays on a family break to Alloa.
He had always managed his condition with medication and appeared to show no symptoms that something was wrong prior to his death.
His sister Jade said: “I have asthma too and I have to admit I am scared to do anything, people just don’t know how serious the condition is.”
Dr Andrew Smith, who is a consultant physician in respiratory medicine at Wishaw General, is an expert in the field of asthma with around 10 years’ experience.
He said: “The general perception by people is that asthma is a mild disease.
“It is still a problem that the public are not aware that it can be life threatening.”
