We mean business

BUSINESS in Lanarkshire will be booming following a cash boost of £6.8m into a project which aims to support new and existing businesses.

Lanarkshire Enterprise Services Ltd has been awarded a Business Gateway contract which began on Monday, October 1, and will run over the next five years.

The service will be managed by North Lanarkshire on behalf of both North and South Lanarkshire councils, and funding has come from the Scottish Government.

Councillor David Fagan, vice-convenor of the regeneration and infrastructure committee with NLC, said: “This is a great opportunity for local councils to become more involved in supporting local businesses. We have a strong working relationship with Lanarkshire Enterprise Services and we look forward to developing this further.

“Both councils are keen to ensure support to start-up and existing businesses, and this contract will help meet local business needs and priorities.”

The scheme will assist new businesses to set up and grow; identify and work on a one-to-one basis with start-up and existing businesses which have growth potential; and deliver free workshops and events to assist start-up and existing businesses.

Caitriona McAuley, economic development manager with NLC, added: “We are determined to ensure all our efforts are focused on sustaining and creating economic growth in Lanarkshire.

“The award of the Business Gateway contract gives us a platform to continue to encourage investment and job creation, even in the current challenging economic environment.

“Through this new contract, we will support existing businesses to remain competitive and allow new ventures to develop.”
