ACCLAIMED Welsh male voice choir Cör Meibion Morlais will give a concert at Sacred Heart Church in Kildrum next month.

The concert came about as a member of the church’s Vincent de Paul society, Tom McGrath, is related to a choir member who visited Cumbernauld and loved the acoustics at the church so much he wanted to arrange a concert.

This was duly set up and will take place in the church on Friday, August 3 at 7.30pm. The soloist for the evening will be local singer Clarissa Bovill, a graduate from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Proceeds from the concert will go to the Third World Group and the Vincent de Paul society, which funds projects around the parish.

Kathleen Dixon, chairwoman of the Third World Group, said: “This is a real first for Cumbernauld and the money we raise will be used to support third world charities, and hold events within the parish which bring local people together, and also help people living in the worst poverty.”

The church has supported charities operating in such diverse locations as Nigeria, Nepal and Malawi and is also helping to send young volunteers from within its congregation to help deprived people all over the world.

Tickets for the concert are priced £8 each and can be obtained by calling 01236 728468, or you can send an email to thirdworldgroupsh@ymail.com.
