THE wheels have been set in motion for an estimated £73 million of cuts at North Lanarkshire Council - and the process starts tomorrow (Thursday).

Councillors will gather at its Motherwell headquarters with a view to giving the green light to a month-long public consultation which will be launched next Monday, October 1, in a bid to ascertain what services should stay or go.

That process will be complete by December and the findings will come into play by March 1 – in a move which could completely re-draw the list of frontline services that the council once provided.

The procedure gained notoriety in Cumbernauld before it even started after it emerged that the town could lose one of its secondary schools in the process. For more see pages 4/5.
