Cumbernauld police have been doing their bit to encourage people to become fitter as well as fighting climate change.

Angela Fitzsimons of I Am Bikes visited Cumbernauld Police office on Monday to receive 13 bikes from Chief Inspector David Bruce.

I Am Bikes is a registered charity which has been based in the Lenziemill area of Cumbernauld since August 2013.

The charity is sponsored by the Climate Change Fund and the Scottish Government to promote cycling within the Cumbernauld area.

A new project called Cycle to the Moon has now been set up in conjunction with North Lanarkshire Roads and Transport and the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

The project which will begin in the spring will seek and develop cycle routes throughout Cumbernauld. New signposts will be erected as part of the project. Through cycling the project will aim to enhance health and wellbeing and will also look at other areas such as climate change.
