Lochside louts need talking to!

Broadwood Loch is one of our most prized beauty spots but there will always be a dark side to an open body of water. We now learn that risk stems not only from the loch itself which is deep and muddy enough to present a major hazard but the fact that a lifebelt has been stolen from its banks 36 times in the last three years. Sadly tragedies involving young people and water have not been far from the headlines this summer. Even the council’s biggest critic could not lay blame at officials shirking their responsibilities here as replacing the lifebelt has become a continuous process. Perhaps parents have a role to play here. It involves asking their offspring the simple question ‘‘What are you getting up to at Broadwood Loch?’’
