A mum whose baby son tragically died when he was only a few weeks old has launched a bold bid to bring some extra magic into the lives of other children.
Craigmarloch nurse Cheryl McKain, supported by husband Joe and children Tyler (9) and Karys (5), aims to register as a charity in order to step up her efforts under the banner Team Lewis.
During the run-up to her family’s terrible tragedy she was struck by what she sees as a lack of things for children to do in intensive care wards.
She said: “We decked out one ward as a Santa’s grotto at Christmas, and eventually we want to make a difference to every such ward in the Glasgow area –whether it’s with carnival tickets or DVD’s, or ideas other mums and dads may have.
“We can’t do the whole of Scotland, but we can certainly hope to make a difference at hospitals close to home.”
She says she has had strong support from several local companies, and is currently planning a special hamper prize contest which would involve local shops.
