New art class set to launch

EVER fancied having a go at drawing or painting - or honing those skills if you already have them?

Then here’s your chance – for a new adult art class is poised to launch later this month at Carbrain Community Centre in Wallbrae Community Rooms, Cumbernauld.

The weekly classes, run by North Lanarkshire Council’s creative services, begin on Monday, November 21 and will be on from 1pm-3pm.

They are aimed at people aged 16 years-plus and are suitable for beginners and the more experienced artist.

Anne-Louise Kieran, arts development officer, said: “This new class is a response to local demand to provide the community with quality arts activities in a friendly and informal environment. Our tutors are all highly qualified and experienced, offering instruction and guidance whether a complete beginner or a more advanced artist.”

The class costs £5 (£4.50 passport to leisure) per week and some basic materials will be supplied.

Anne-Louise added: “The classes will cater for those interested in all aspects of drawing and painting.

“We will provide basic materials when working in areas such as pastels, watercolours and acrylics.

“The class gives the opportunity for people to get together to practice, learn new skills and techniques and to discuss each other’s work. Painting is such a relaxing and absorbing activity that it’s a bit of time for yourself each week”.
