Elderly Cumbernauld patients needing long-term state-funded care could be on the move from Carrickstone Day Hospital after NHS Lanarkshire announced that the were “reviewing” the number of beds there.

The health board is looking to provide care at home and admits that it could reduce its number of beds from 35 to just 10.

The change is scheduled for next April when a key NHS contract expires. A decision about the plan is expected to be made at the end of the month.
