ABRONHILL’S local high school welcomed a World and Olympic gold medalist recently.
The taekwondo club which meets at Abronhill High was visited by Chu Mu Yen.
The club members enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime experience of meeting and learning taekwondo from the Taiwanese olympic champion, who said he was impressed with the quality of the students.
Club instructor Robert Robertson has enjoyed working alongside the champion at Caledonian’s full-time Taekwondo Centre for the last three weeks and will continue to benefit from working with him for the next six months.
Chu Mu Yen has competed in two Olympic Games, Athens 2004 taking away a gold, and Beijing 2008 taking a very respectable bronze medal.
In 2003 he won gold in the world championships and another gold in the Universiade (World student games).
Robert said that the opportunity to learn from Chu Mu Yen can hopefully inspire Abronhill locals that they have a dream to compete at an Olympics or commonwealth games and work hard to achieve their dreams. Abronhill may have a future Olympic champion in its midst?
Abronhill’s taekwondo club meets every Thurday night at 7pm in Abronhill High School. Contact Robert Robertson on 01236 874634 or email email@example.com
