The mystery of Moriarty’s fate sounds like a story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

But in this case it is not Sherlock Holmes’ nemesis but the Cumbernauld bar which seems to have vanished forever.

The Tay Walk watering hole, recently under new management, has been closed since Friday without announcement.

The landlords for this part of Cumbernauld Town Centre are Gatehouse Facilities Management Ltd.

Stephen Hill of Gatehouse said: “We cannot comment on detail about individual tenants but we are looking for a new tenant to take over the premises.

“It may also be time for a change of direction in terms of how the unit is used.”

Mr Hill declined to reveal whether Moriarty’s owed rent.

Police chief inspector David Bruce added that in the week prior to the pub closed there may have some form of disagreement between staff members.

He said: “I was on leave at the time but have been notified officers were called to the premises in connection with a disturbance involving staff. It is my understanding that this matter was not serious.”
