A CONSULTATION on proposals to build a new major supermarket in Cumbernauld has revealed the majority of the public are in support of the development.

A total of 85 per cent of residents who responded are in favour of the proposed multi-million pound Morrisons development in Westfield.

Morrisons carried out extensive pre-application consultation with the community of Westfield, inviting residents to make their views known by filling in a questionnaire.

Residents were then asked to return their thoughts by mail or hand them in at one of two public exhibition events in Broadwood Stadium, on September 18 and 19.

Feedback from the questionnaire indicated a desire for greater choice in food shopping in the area, with 99 per cent of respondents expressing their wish to see increased variety.
