A TRAGIC incident occurred in Abronhill this morning after a train driver reported a body hanging from the bridge on Broom Road.

It is believed that the person, reported to be a 25-year-old woman from Abronhill, was struck by the train. However police reports have not confirmed this.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “BTP officers were called to the line close Broom Road on Tuesday, April 19 after the driver of the 4.am Mossend to Inverness freight service reported a body hanging from a bridge.

“BTP and Strathcylde Police officers attended the incident, which was reported to police at 5.44am and is currently being treated as unexplained.

“Paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A report will be sent to the local Procurator Fiscal and a post-mortem will be held in due course.”

The line was re-opened just before mid-day.
