TAX OFFICE staff in Cumbernauld are set to take strike action today in their ongoing battle against changes to their pensions and working conditions

Staff from HMRC are to man a picket line outside their town centre workplace which is one of Cumbernauld’s biggest employers - while others will simply stay away from the office.

Approximately 1200 workers are expected to take part in the action.

And they have asked for the public’s support in the bitter dispute - which members of the PCS Union have branded the “Great Pensions Robbery”. They have claimed that employees will have to work longer, pay in more and receive less for doing so.

Members have secured the support of local MP Gregg McClymont, shadow pensions secretary, and the Scottish Socialist Party which reiterated calls for other workers to support the tax office staff.
