THE true cost of building new schools across North Lanarkshire has come to light thanks to investigations by a leading Cumbernauld and Kilsyth politician.
SNP MSP Jamie Hepburn says he is “astounded” by figures which reveal the cost of funding new schools across the council area through the PFI model will cost almost five times their value.
Mr Hepburn lodged two written questions at the Scottish Parliament recently, and was directed by the Scottish Government to figures pertaining to the North Lanarkshire Schools project.
The politicians says these figures have revealed that the repayments for the £150 million project when totalled together are estimated to come to £729 million.
