Sir – Royal Voluntary Service’s Diamond Champions campaign, sponsored by McCarthy & Stone and supported by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall in her capacity as President of the charity, aims to recognise the many older volunteers in Scotland who do amazing, but often under-recognised, work helping others in the community.

Sixty Diamond Champions will be chosen including 10 from Scotland; 12 people from across Britain will be invited to a reception in the autumn. The closing date for nominations is Sunday, September 15 and we want people in Scotland to nominate their volunteer hero and celebrate the difference they make to the lives of others. Nominations can be made at royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk/diamondchampions.

Make sure your Diamond Champion is in with a chance! - Yours etc.,

Sir, - North Lanarkshire residents are being challenged to glide 1,000 feet across the River Clyde to raise funds for Action for Children Scotland.

A few places still remain on the leading charity’s Zipslide across the Clyde challenge on Saturday, October 12 – and we hope that thrill seekers from North Lanarkshire will show their support for the country’s most vulnerable children, young people and families by taking part.

Our Zipslide across the Clyde challenge is back for its sixth year and a few places remain for the popular event.

If you think you’re brave enough to glide over the glide on the 130 feet zipslide, which can reach speeds of up to 35 mph, please do get in touch to reserve your place – before it’s too late.

Registration for the Zipslide across the Clyde is just £20 and all participants are asked to raise a minimum of £150 for Action for Children Scotland.

Participants must be aged 16 years or over and parental consent is required for participants aged 16 or 17 years. The maximum weight is 17 stone.

To take part in Zipslide across the Clyde, contact Katie Forsyth at Action for Children Scotland on 0141 550 9023 or by email at scotland@actionforchildren.org.uk. Yours etc.,
