A YOUNG Cumbernauld boxer is heading off to the other side of the globe to take part in the Junior World Championships.
Andrew Tham, who has been a member of the town’s Broadwood Boxing Club for the past two years, will face stiff opposition at the championships, taking place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from today until July 31.
However, 15-year-old Andrew is no stranger to competition, as he has 15 fights under his belt and recently returned from the Great Britain Junior Championships in Cardiff with a bronze medal.
The young Balloch boxer is also no stranger to travelling to take part in competitions.
In April this year he flew out to take part in the President’s Cup contest in Azerbaijan.
And a few months ago he was jetting off again, this time to Hungary, where he took part in the European Championships.
Unfortunately on both these occasion, young Andrew was beaten by competitors from Russia.
Andrew picked up the Scottish title this year for his age group at 52kg.
And the young fighter has also made his way into the development squad for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Everyone at Broadwood Boxing Club is proud of Andrew’s achievements and would like to wish him all the best in his foray into the world arena in Kazakhstan.
