Boxers to the fore in the Forces

TWO former Kilsyth boxers have been making their names in the armed forces.

Tommy Crawford of Cumbernauld is now a Marine and Kilsyth’s Scott Mathieson is in the Scots Gaurds.

A spokesman for Kilsyth’s Golden Gloves Boxing Club told the News and Chronicle that Tommy has continued his boxing and picked up the Marine’s bantamweight title, while Scott was recently awarded a medal for bravery under fire.

Meanwhile the club would like to thank Mick Mooney of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Pool League for the kind donation. And local firm Tube Developments have sponsored the club allowing them to buy a whole range of new equipment and sportwear.

The Golden Gloves club have also started new Saturday afternoon training sessions for youngsters. These are aimed at eight to 11-year-olds and take place between 2 and 3 p.m. For further details contact Francis Connor on 07957 951563.
