CLYDE’S hopes of progressing in the Scottish Communities League Cup were dealt a blow by near-neighbours Motherwell at Broadwood last night (Wednesday).

In the early stages Stephen McDonald and John Neill both had attempts on goal, which ‘Well keeper Hollis handled comfortably.

The visitors went ahead in the 17th minute with Michael Higdon nodding the ball into the net from six yards.

Premier side ‘Well went further into the lead just before the interval when Nicky Law fired in a powerful shot from the edge of the box.

Number three came early in the second half with another unstoppable shot, this time from Tom Hateley.

The Bully Wee were dealt a further blow as Stephen McDonald went down awkwardly and had to be carried off the field with an ankle injury.

With only five minutes left Steven Lawless pounced on a loose ball to blast a shot in off the underside of the bar to round off the scoring.
