Cumbernauld Colts u-21 FC faced Mill Utd at Mill’s ground in Wishaw on a warm sunny Sunday.

The teams have met five times before in all competitions with the Colts coming out on top every time, so this was a foregone conclusion, or so they thought.

On a pitch almost bereft of grass it was Mill who wanted it, almost needed it more, and managed to see out a 2 – 1 victory. This makes it very interesting as the Colts meet them in the final of the Challenge Cup in the near future, time / location to be announced.

A mid-week league match took place between Colts and Claremont AFC from East Kilbride on Tuesday, April 24. Both teams had met before and the Colts always seemed the stronger side, but it was a new day and a new game, so time would tell.

The game got off to a nervy start and was evenly matched for the first ten minutes or so, but then the Colts raised their game, got an opener and went into a 1- 0 lead through Michael Graham from free-kick bending around the wall.

The pressure continued and was sustained until half-time with goals from Goldie, Danny Cahill and another from the Colts’ captain Michael Graham. The captain’s right-footed thunderbolt from just inside the 18-yard box made it 4–0 but Claremont grabbed one back before half-time.

Into the second half and not much had changed as the Colts lined up chance after chance, but some poor finishing saw several opportunities go begging. Claremont persisted and won another goal late into the game. The Colts scored twice in the second half through super sub Frankie Humphries to end it 6–2 and a real goal fest.

The Colts win again in the league and Canter onwards, just slightly ahead of Celtic boys club in the race to clinch the title this season.
