Dalry 5 Cumbernauld United 2
Scottish Cup, fourth round
United crashed out of the Scottish Cup against Ayrshire minnows Dalry and can have no complaints as they produced their worst performance of the season.
The young Dalry side came back from a goal down to book a fifth-round tie at Dundonald Bluebell.
The Merksworth Park side trailed to a Jim Steele left-foot volley after 38 minutes but two goals from Kyle Cummings and Italian Pietro Pegollo and an injury-time goal from Ross Harvie sealed a well deserved victory after Ross Foley had thrown United a lifeline.
The three times postponed tie burst into life when keeper Hewitt failed to hold a stinging Chris Zok drive and Jim Steele was on hand to fire home the rebound. But within seconds the home side levelled when Conor Kelly’s defence splitting pass sent Pegollo through for a clear run on goal to slot home for a cool finish.
Four minutes after the restart Pegollo drove home a spot-kick after James Brown had conceded a penalty.
Things went from bad to worse for United when Cummings outpaced the United defence to score after being set up by Greg Wallace.
