Emirates Scottish Junior Cup, second round

Cumbernauld United came away from Maybole after a very creditable performance earned them a Scottish Cup replay at Guy’s Meadow on Saturday.

A ridiculous decision by an over-officious referee in the 32nd minute of the match which saw him show a red card to Scott Upton left United with ten men to battle it out for the remaining hour in order to retain an interest in the most prestigious competition in Junior football.

So well did the Cumbernauld men fight that at no time did it seem that the visitors were a man short - surely a tribute to their standard of fitness.

The playing conditions at Ladywell Stadium were not great and were certainly not conclusive to United’s brand of football. One of the Cumbernauld supporters summed it up perfectly when he said “a poor pitch, a poor referee, a poor game”.

The replay will be at Guy’s Meadow this Saturday (November 2), kick off 2 p.m. Penalties will decide the tie if there is no result at the end of 90 minutes.
