A FOOTBALL-MAD youngster from Cumbernauld has been called up to fly the flag for his country.

Abronhill High School pupil Cameron Ross was selected to play for the under 14 national squad at the weekend.

The talented 12-year-old was one of 60 young lads who were contesting for the opportunity to represent their country.

But that number was whittled down to 32 hopefuls who battled it out for a spot in the squad on March 8 at Hampden Indoor Stadium.

After an agonising wait Cameron and his delighted family, who live in Whitelees, breathed a sigh of relief after receiving a letter from the national squad confirming Cameron’s selection.
