Cumbernauld United are through to the quarter-finals of the Euroscot Engineering Sectional League Cup.

Following last week’s victory over Kilsyth Rangers the Guy’s Meadow team will face Larkhall Thistle tonight in the last eight of the tournament.

The match takes place at Gasworks Park, Larkhall, with a 6.30pm kick-off.

Although Thistle are in a lower league than United – The Stagecoach West of Scotland League Central District First Division – this will be a stern test for the Cumbernauld team.

The winners of this tie will have a home game against either Thorniewood United or Port Glasgow Juniors in the semi-final of the cup on Wednesday, September 3.

This Saturday, August 30, United begin their league campaign when they entertain a strong Maybole Juniors side at Guy’s Meadow, kick-off 2pm.

The Ayrshire side have had a good start to the season in the Ardagh Glass League Cup winning four games out of five and so will be tough opposition for the locals.

The area’s other junior football side, Kilsyth Rangers, played their final game of the Sectional League Cup on Saturday against local rivals Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

This game ended in a 1-1 draw with Rangers finishing their cup campaign in fifth place in the section.

Rangers face Kirkintilloch Rob Roy again on Saturday, this time in their first Stagecoach West of Scotland First Division game of the season. Kick-off at Duncansfield Park is at 2pm.
