United produced one of their best performances of the season on Wednesday to defeat the league’s second top team Beith Juniors.

The locals opened the socring in the 18th minute when a Scott Upton cross was netted by top scorer Chris Zok.

The visitors came out in determined fashion after the break, but it was United who scored again when a Dom O’Halloran left-foot shot beat Beith keeper Adam Strain.

In a tough uncompromising encounter which saw five frustrated Ayrshire men booked and one red-carded, United finished the match good winners.

Cumbernauld skipper Tony Fraser had an outstanding game but every home player was a star.
