Junior outings scuppered by weather

KILSYTH Rangers’ game at East Kilbride on Saturday was called off, but it was not the state of the pitch that caused the postponement.

The mid-week gales caused damage to the changing rooms and the electrical system at the ground.

Meanwhile, Glenafton Athletic and Ardrossan Winton Rovers both had narrow wins in league games which did go ahead, meaning Glenafton now head the division by a single point, although Rangers have two games in hand.

Ardrossan are level on points and games played with Rangers, but have a slightly superior goal difference.

This Saturday, weather permitting, Rangers will visit Ardrossan for a second round New Coin Automatics West of Scotland Cup tie, kick-off at 1.45pm.

“It’s a cup game but it takes on more meaning because of the league situation - they’re second, we’re third and we’re level on points,” said assistant boss Martin Mooney.

“We haven’t played in the league yet so I’m sure everyone will be really up for it.”

Cumbernauld United saw a second attempt to play their round two match in the West of Scotland Cup fall victim to the conditions yet again on Saturday.

Manager John Queen was disappointed with the call off, especially since he and his team were able to train on the Guy’s Meadow pitch.

He said: “I think the fact that Saturday was one of the better days we’ve had over the last couple of weeks was the most disappointing thing.

“We managed to train on our own pitch but I know there were a lot of call-offs and it was because the weather last week was terrible.”

Another attempt will be made to play the cup tie away at Rutherglen Glencairn this Saturday.

Queen added: “We’ll be looking forward to next weekend, hopefully the weather holds up.

“We started to get a bit of form just before everything stopped before Christmas. We’ll be looking to carry that momentum on.”

The Original Cumbernauld United SC bus for the game will leave the Village at 12.10 p.m. and Town Centre at 12.15 p.m.
