Linlithgow legend Tyrell looks to make his mark with Kilsyth

Junior side Kilsyth Rangers have strengthened ahead of the coming campaign by snapping up former Linlithgow Rose stalwart Mark Tyrell.

Tyrell, known as ‘Spade’, became Linlinthgow legend after spending nine years at Prestonfield before leaving the club to be closer to his Kilsyth home due to work commitments.

As Rose skipper Tyrell played a key role in Rose’s remarkable run to the last 16 of the senior Scottish Cup last season, although ironically his work commitments at a factory in Cumbernauld meant he missed his side’s memorable win over League One side Forfar Athletic.

Another notable addition to the Kilsyth squad is Francis Kelly, another former Linlithgow player who returns to Duncansfield after a year with Linlithgow and another with Camelon.

Other than that Rangers boss Keith Hogg has retained the bulk of last season’s squad for the coming campaign which begins with an exselgroup Sectional League Cup opener at home to Rossvale on Saturday, August 6.

As usual Rangers are in the same five-team group as local rivals Cumbernauld United whom they face in their second fixture, also at Duncansfield, on Wednesday, August 10.

Kilsyth’s remaining two fixtures are away, at Kirkintilloch Rob Roy on Saturday, August 13 and Dunipace on Wednesday, August 17.
