SPORTING activities are bound to get a lot better in two local organisations thanks to lottery funding.

Cumbernauld Colts Football Club have been awarded £2,000, in order to secure premises and to provide new equipment for the club by the Big Lottery Fund’s 2014 Communities programme.

While Glencryan School have also been awarded £1,935, which will be use to organise judo lessons and Indepen-dance classes.

2014 Communities is a micro grants programme that aims to award funding to local sports clubs, voluntary and community organisations, community councils, and schools, in order to stimulate participation in grass roots sports and physical activity.

Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP Jamie Hepburn has congratulated both groups on their funding success.

He is also encouraging other local organisations to take advantage of this funding which will continue to be available until the Glasgow Commonwealth games in 2014.

He said: “I am sure that this funding will provide a well needed boost to both Cumbernauld Colts Football Club and Glencryan School, and it goes without saying that those who participate in sport with both organisations are set to benefit from this funding too.

“I am always keen to encourage organisations in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth to apply of all relevant funding available, and would urge any interested parties to visit the Big Lottery Fund website at www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/scotland to find out more information.

“I have heard increasingly often of groups and individuals within Cumbernauld and Kilsyth who have been successful in securing an award from the Big Lottery Fund, and I hope that people will continue to apply for funding grants and I will be hearing of even more successful applications.”
