HONOURED: Cumbernauld's Victor Keelan will have a prominent role in the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony

Greenfaulds man Victor Keelan has a singular honour to look forward to.

Not only is Victor a referee at the Commonwealth Games, but he has a special role in the opening ceremony.

Victor will, on behalf of all referees at the Games, swear an oath while watched by millions of people around the world.

“It is a great honour for me and for the sport of wrestling to be chosen for this,” said Victor, who is also the president of Scottish wrestling.

Victor, who as a child competed in international wrestling events, is a top class wrestling referee and also officiated at the 2010 games in Delhi.

“I feel being chosen is a recognition of the hard work I have put into wrestling over the years, but it also represents the commitment to wrestling in that our sport was chosen above all the others.”
