A Cumbernauld-based Taekwon-do club has continued its run of championship success by taking a number of medals at the English National Open.

The XS club was copmpeting at the event, held at De Havilland Campus at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield.

And the small team of of both Black Belt and Coloured Belt students - led by 5th degree international instructor Marie McAneny - achieved some amazing results as they came home with medals in all grades and categories.

Pride of place for winning a national title by taking a gold medal went to Stuart Odell who won the Special Techniques category and Lauren Dunsmore who was successful in the Patterns discipline.

Stuart was also among the medals in the Patterns and Sparring sections of the competition, taking a silver in each, while James Phillip also struck silver for Sparring.

The club’s medal haul was completed by Kieran Dunsmore won bronze for Patterns and bronze for Sparring.

And also worthy of a special mention was Jack Hanley who did well competing in the junior section against 17-year-olds where he achieved fourth position in Patterns in a category of 41 competitors.

It was the latest in a series of notable achievements for the club at national and international level in recent years.

Earlier this year they were on top of the world after capturing no fewer than 34 medals from the Unified ITF World Championships held at the same venue.
