Rugby Club gets going

CUMBERNAULD Rugby Club started pre-season training yesterday (Tuesday), at the club's headquarters at Auchenkilns, Condorrat.

Alec Arthur, Club President, said, "There's a new buzz about the place and we are looking forward to the new season under our new head player coach, David Jamieson who started his rugby career here in the minis and went on to play at prop for Scotland under 21s, in New Zealand with Mid Northern then in the Scottish First Division before going to France to play for Le Creusot Montchanin and Bourg en Bresse. Recently David played with GHA, again at the highest levels of Scottish Club rugby, and I am sure the experience he has gained will be good for all players in the club."

David said, "I am proud to be given the chance to build on what we already have in place at Cumbernauld and look forward to bringing on the talented youngsters already here as well as bringing the best out of our more experienced players.

"There are and have been very good mini and youth sides at the club and my aim is to work with all the sections and put in place a three year plan that will build on what we have to establish the highest standards of coaching. We also want to recruit and will welcome anyone at any level to come and join us.

"This league is not going to be easy but with the players we have and with a couple of additional experienced players to combine with the young raw talent that the club has been nurturing, we aim to do very well as a club this season".

"Obviously we want to reach our goal of promotion and with the foresight and ambition of Alec and Director of Rugby John McCormack together with the leadership of club captain, David Inverarity and the full backing of the players and committee, I will be putting in all my efforts to achieve this".

Captain David Inverarity said, "Training is on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday with pre-season games starting on August 6 prior to the league proper beginning on September 3 with an away game to Bishopton. Cumbernauld do not have an easy start with the top team of last year GHK among those we face early in the season, but if we are to succeed we have to take on all comers and put everything into winning every game."
