Youngsters enjoy rugby festival

LAST weekend’s weather played havoc with the rugby fixture list, with a total of five games off, and only two surviving the rain. But at least the seagulls got a good swim after the Staines Burn burst its bank.

Friday afternoon at Auchenkilns saw over 80 S1 and S2 boys and girls from Kilsyth Academy, St. Maurice’s High, Cumbernauld High, Greenfaulds High and Our Lady’s High take part in a round robin festival in what, for many of them, was their first experience of competitive contact rugby. All the players showed great enthusiasm and enjoyed the experience of a sport which for many is not their natural first choice, but seems to have lit the touch paper with several making a commitment to continue with rugby training.
