Wellsfield Trout Fishery

THE better milder weather for the time of year has brought out anglers in better numbers and the fishing has been excellent again this week.

All 3 lochans fished well this week for fly and bait anglers. Many anglers bagged their fish limits, average weight of fish was 3lb with a few larger fish in the 4lb – 7lb range.

Best flies this week: Red Buzzer, Black/Red Buzzer, Bloodworm, Black/Green Fritz, Black Tadpole, Humungus, and Holographic Diawl Bachs fished on a long leader. Best baits: ledgered worm, maggots and size 1 Mepps spinners.

Largest fish of the week was a 10lb 8oz rainbow trout for D Neilson (Carronshore) in his bag of 4 trout for 18lb.

Best catches for this week – R. Ure (Stirling) six for 15lb in 2 permits, J. Jenkins (Broxburn) five for 15lb.
