A TEAM of 23 students from XS Taekwondo club brought a total of 21 medals back to Cumbernauld from the GT-UK Taekwondo British Individual Championships.

Marie McAneny (4th degree International Instructor) travelled with the students, who train at Broadwood Stadium, to Ryton-on-Dunsmore in the heart of the English countryside to compete in the competition. Travelling to the tournament by coach with the support team made up from friends and family there was an electric atmosphere from the start.

The atmosphere continued at the tournament with a lively “buzz” evident as soon as we stepped through the doors. New students to the competition along with the seasoned campaigners all enjoyed the camaraderie and challenges on the day.

Once again the overall standard of patterns and sparring was considered to be high and the judging fair. All the XS students were amazing and a credit to the club. They were very successful in achieving medals in all categories, the total count being ten golds, creating British Champions; seven silver; and four bronze medals.

There was a demonstration of taekwondo from the senior members of the association along with some of the younger students from both the English and Scottish teams showing great teamwork.

The day ended with a party where everyone let their hair down and enjoyed a great evening. Once again new friends were made and new goals achieved and all felt that it was one of the best tournaments ever.
