A LOCAL icon will be featured on a prime time BBC TV show soon.

The One Show visited Abronhill High School on Thursday to film a segment on 1981 film Gregory’s Girl.

With the film crew were three of the original cast – Clare Grogan, who played the role of Susan, Robert Buchanan who was Andy, and Douglas Sannachan, who appeared as Billy the window cleaner.

The actors chatted with pupils, recreated scenes from the film and watched an on-campus screening.

The film crew also toured other local landmarks including Cumbernauld House Park, where they interviewed volunteer Adam Smith.

Adam said: “It was a surreal experience for me last Thursday. Not only was I interviewed by Clare Grogan in Cumbernauld House Park, but I got to sit next to some of the Gregory’s Girl cast during a screening of the film in Abronhill High School.

Joanna Grace, director at Icon Films who make short films for the One Show said: “When we heard that Abronhill High School was closing, we thought what better way to send it off than to make a programme about Gregory’s Girl and put on a screening at the school. It gave us a great opportunity to visit some of the iconic landmarks that feature in the film.”

The air date for the episode is yet to be set but anticipated around the end of the school year.
