Acts sought for major festival

CUMBERNAULD could be set to host its very own Oxjam festival later this year.

Cumbernauld College student, David Cooke, is appealing for volunteers, bands and venues to help him make Cumbernauld one of the designated venues for one of the country’s largest music festivals.

Oxjam Festival raises cash for Oxfam by gathering bands to play at local venues, with cash raised going to the charity.

David said: “Right now I’m looking for volunteers who could help organise an Oxjam Cumbernauld.

“We’re looking at holding the event in October, possibly during October week, and might even make it a two day event.

“The fesitval would be a real community event and would be open to all different ages.”

David has experience in organising live events as he has been an active member of Cumbernauld Community Forum and its Youth Forum and has helped organise Gala days in recent years.

Oxjam is a month-long event and gigs were ran across Edinburgh and Glasgow last year in venues like The Electric Circus and Bar Bloc. However, David is hoping to bring the party a little closer to home.

He added: “This is a nation-wide event and gets nationwide press coverage.

“It’s an opportunity for local people to come together and see local bands, raising cash for a great charity.”
