All set for a brilliantday’s fun

That’s the promise from organiser Ian Elliott ahead of the May 31 spectacular –which this year will feature everything from an inflatable city to ex-pro football action – and plenty of barbecue and othertreats to eat.

The event is in aid of Strathcarron Hospice and, thanks to previous success, is now bigger and better than ever and celebrating its fourth year.

In true summer gala style the fun and games will take place to the stirring strains of the Moodiesburn and District Pipe Band, with loads of fun events and matches taking place from 10am right through to 7pm.

Football is the main draw, with plenty of thrilling and closely-played games involving the young and not so young, but that’s just the centrepiece of a day which can fairly claim to have something for everyone.

Meanwhile everyone who attends will be helping one of the area’s favourite causes just by turning up at Guy’s Meadow on the day to enjoy the fun.

Ian Elliot said: “This is a wonderful local fun day that centres on brilliant football action – the games featuring the ex-pros from Dukla Pumpherston will be a treat to watch”.

Going by the standard set by previous years’ events that’s probably no exaggeration, with a programme which successfully combines top quality junior and senior football games with family-style entertainment that’s every bit as engaging as the events to be found at some of the area’s best-loved annual gala events.

From what had been a bold idea on inception the George Thomson Memorial Cup event, and everything that goes with it, is seen as the sort of weekend happening that’s well worth attending whatever the weather.

The first part of the day is going to be orientated towards families, with the football continuing into the evening – and some people stay for most or all of the programme.

Admission to this “not to be missed” popular annual Village event is £3 for adults and £1.50 for children and pensioners.
