Band’s popularity not such a puzzle

You should never underestimate The Noizy crowd’s hunger for good punk rock music – at this gig they were treated to a feast and were witness to a master class performance.

Having been fortunate to see The Puzzlers debut gig last April, it was even more enjoyable to see how far they have come in such a short space of time.

The guys were definitely on top of their game tonight with new guitarist Jim McKellan adding a new sound n’ vibe to their songs.

Frontman Jim Dorman had a swagger about him most of the night, thoroughly enjoying the set and was ably backed byAndy Morrison on bass and Gordon Tosh on drums.

They kicked off with ‘Gypsy Violin’, one of their own which has an infectious chorus that was in my head for the rest of the night.

They rattled off a few of their older songs that still have a fresh feel to them and none more so than ‘Book Of Jokes’ and ‘Looking At Pictures’.

But tonight’s highlights came in the way of their new songs, the brilliant ‘Only Guy Around’ and ‘Nobody Knows’, both catchy punk pop songs with superb lyrics and chorus. The guys then paid tribute to Stuart ‘Mansy’ Manson, a big music fan and local musician who we sadly lost last year, with a rendition of The Stranglers, ‘Something Better Change, a fitting tribute to one of Cumbernauld’s finest.

They also penned a new song just for the Noizy gig, the aptly named ‘Were Going To The Noizy’, amusing, funny and utterly brilliant.

The bands hour long set finished with a cover of The Long Ryders, ‘Looking for Lewis and Clark’, bringing to a close a top night from a top band.

If you get a chance to see The Puzzlers, please do, you won’t be disappointed.
