Husband and wife Jim and Alex Paterson are a popular band down under, who have performed for crowds of 30,000 and have been requested to play for the Australian Prime Minister on multiple occasions.

But for all their jet setting a visit to Cumbernauld represents a homecoming for them as Jim grew up in Abronhill.

We caught up with Jim at the massive Skagen festival in Denmark (by phone, alas) to ask him about this low-key performance.

“Doing a concert in Cumbernauld is a great way for us to see our friends and family,” said Jim. “We played at the Spur Hotel in Cumbernauld Village two years ago and after the News ran an article on it so many people turned up they filled the venue and spilled into the street.

“So this time we’re trying a slightly bigger place.

“Performing like this lets us see everyone in one night rather than having to tour round 30 different houses.”

Jim and Alex are also playing at the InterCeltique festival in France, with their European tour also taking in Paris, Copenhagen, Latvia, Estonia and Edinburgh.

They have also recently performed in Nashville, Tennessee.

“We are looking forward to the French festival,” said Jim. “Especially as they’ve made this the Year of Ireland and my wife is originally from Belfast.”

The concert at the Twa Corbies on July 26th, the cost of entry is £5.
