Championsof Scotland

CROY Silver Band have been ‘blowing their own trumpets’ by becoming Scottish champions.

The village’s musicians took the 2nd Section title at the recent Scottish Brass Band Championships, held in Rothes Hall, Glenrothes.

In a close-run contest, adjudicators Roger Webster and Steve Pritchard-Jones decided that under the baton of musical director Kenneth Blackwood, Croy’s rendition of the test piece Cross Patonce by Goff Richards, was the best in the section and awarded them 187 points.

Following close on their heels were Coalburn Silver, who took second place with 186 points, while third place was taken by Campbeltown Brass who were awarded 185 points. The jubilant members of the Croy band will now travel to Cheltenham in September to take part in the British Championships.

Their win also promotes them into the First Section.

Band president John McAtee said: “This is a great achievement and everyone is over the moon with the result.

“A big thank you goes to the band members and all who have helped with sponsorship over the year.”

And you have a great opportunity to hear what the Scottish Champions sound like when they feature in a concert next month at Cumbernauld Theatre.

The event takes place on Saturday, May 19, and full details are available from the Theatre on 01236 732887.
