Eating out: a New York state of mind
While the burger scene has improved in recent years, nowhere has really grabbed the bull by the horns and set a standard.
Most are mere poor relations to comparably-priced gourmet burgers across the pond.

Everything at the restaurant is simple: the décor is no frills, the burgers arrive in a paper wrapper, the menu is just one small page — nothing but burgers and sides — but there is nothing better than simplicity done to perfection.
There are six options: three beef burgers, two “chic chic chicken” burgers and one with “nae meat”.
I opted for the smokin’ bacon burger; home cured and smoked bacon, Dale End cheese, spiced ketchup, burger sauce and braised onions all packed in a brioche bun.

Care is taken over every ingredient. Every burger, every side is clearly researched. When you walk down the stairs to the burger bar, it feels like you are walking down into a bar in the East Village in New York.
The desserts are just as simple, but just as good. A mysterious “burger and shake” or doughnuts and dipping sauce — each presented with imagination and creativity indicative of the rest of the menu.
Drinks are clearly also just as carefully sourced.
There has been a real buzz about Burger Meats Bun and the hype is well deserved — it seems that Glasgow-based burger snobs have a new headquarters.
