But Alzheimer Scotland, with an active and expanding presence here, is hoping generous Cumbernauld and Kilsyth residents will help it do even more.

It has the enthusiastic support of the woman behind one of the best-known voices in Scottish radio, and she’s hoping like-minded supporters of the charity will lend their support to a fun event on Sunday, April 12.

Gina McKie will be host and compere for what’s reckoned set to be a memorable lunch a the Alona Hotel in Strathclyde Park.

Besides promising to offer a lunch to remember the hotel has the distinction of having been voted Lanarkshire’s most dementia-friendly hotel.

It chimes with local initiatives which have included retailers being aware of the needs of shoppers with dementia.

Alzheimer’ Scotland’s local adviser, Lorna Hart, said: “Please accept this invitation to come join us for lunch with your family, friends, colleagues whilst raising funds and awareness of Alzheimer Scotland.”

The tickets are £45, but for a celebrity fundraiser in a well-regarded hotel is reckoned a good deal for an event staged for a worthy cause.
