Looking forward to big lights switch-on

THIS year’s Christmas lights switch on in Cumbernauld Shopping Centre is set to be the “best ever”.

That’s the confident claim from Cumbernauld Shopping manager Robert Barr as his staff prepare the finishing touches to displays and decorations before the big day this Saturday, with Santa getting things under way at 1pm.

This year shoppers and visitors will be treated to the musical talents of 2009 X-Factor finalist Lloyd Daniels, as well as Cumbernauld’s very own X Factor contestant and Cumbernauld’s Got Talent winner, Nicole Simpson.

Joining them are the Blok Dance Troupe and Scottish New Music Award Winner Kevin Rodger, who will be performing as Michael Bublé.

Mr Barr said: “This is the one that kicks off the Christmas period and Santa will be joining us at St Mungo’s stairs at 1pm . He will make his way to his grotto and will magically switch the lights on in the centre. This year the displays are the best ever and we’ve got a brand new 20ft tree as well as new lights.

“I’m really excited for it.”

Shoppers will have a chance to visit Santa in his grotto, for an entry fee of just £1 – which goes to charity.

Mr Barr added: “The whole set-up should help to give a nice atmosphere and it’s my staff who actually put it all up, so credit to them.”
