Max takes up batonfor town’s top choir

The choir went through an “unsettling” time following the retiral of veteran conductor John Seggie, and cast their net wide in the search for a credible replacement.

Now the post will be taken up by new man Max Fane, a final year undergraduate at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow – where he is already conductor of both the Royal Conservatoire singers and the Strathclyde University Chorus, as well as beingTenor Scholar at Paisley Abbey.

Mr Fane is also the director of the Raucous Rossini Opera Company, which will be performing at Westbourne Music in February.

Also new to the choir is accompanist Esther Knight, a fourth year student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she is studying piano.

She frequently accompanies solo singers in concert, and also gives lessons in piano.

Max Fane is now making himself familiar with the choir’s previous repertoire, but also plans to take its programme in new directions.

Meanwhile the choir is aiming to recruit some new members, as numbers are currently lower than previously in the second tenor, baritone and bass sections.

Anyone interested in joining sould attend on any Thursday evening from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in Cumbernauld Village Hall, where they will be made very welcome.
