Music returnsto the Corbies

ONE of Cumbernauld’s most popular gig nights is making a comeback.

The Twa Corbies in Carbrain is once again going to be a weekly music venue, with a different band every Friday night.

The honour of performing the first gig falls to popular local band Big Ted’s Party, pictured, who will take to the stage on March 11.

The gigs are being organised by their original promoter, Jock Barnson, who said: “The pub had a great reputation for years as one of THE places to play, even though it’s fairly small.

“I ran the live scene there for several years, helping to build up a solid reputation and introducing the cream of Scotland’s bands to Cumbernauld.

“I am hoping we can get back to that situation fairly quickly.

“The buzz around the town about the re-emergence of the Corbies has been staggering.”

Bar manager Yvonne Dawson, daughter of pub owner Alex, said: “We’re very excited to be bringing these nights back.

“My dad, an old regular at the Corbies, remembers these gigs when they were happening around twenty years ago, they enjoyed a great reception.”

Acts lined up for future appearances include Itchycoo Park, Demon’s Eye, Kong, The Dangerous Brothers and many others. Gigs run from 8pm until midnight and entry is £3 on the door.
