Musical delights at Summer Nights

King Creosote, Roddy Frame and Glasvegas will play at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Bandstand from August 6 to 8.

Joan Armatrading, Ben Folds and yMusic plus Echo and The Bunnymen will perform at the open-air venue the following weekend.

The event will then head to Edinburgh, where the Ross Bandstand in the city’s Princes Street Gardens will host concerts from August 26 to 28, with James, The Flaming Lips and The Waterboys all on the line-up.

For James Allan, lead singer of Glasvegas, it will be a highlight of the summer in his home city of Glasgow.

He said: “There will be us, Glasvegas and the best crowd in the world – no matter where you’re from, everybody knows it.

“Then our sound will start to build in a mid-summer sun setting over Glasgow, my dear gorgeous city.

“Yeah, I’m excited at the thought of losing myself in the sound, melody and word ... and yeah, also excited at the thought of you all getting lost in the music with us.”

Bassist Paul Donoghue agreed, adding: “Playing our city is a totally different beast from playing anywhere else in the world.

“There is an electricity, an energy to a Glasgow gig, which I am sure comes from fans watching one of their own.

“The crowd is more intense and certainly louder and it is all these factors that make the show more unique and very special for us.”

The festival took place for the first time last year and was one of the first music events to be held at the newly-refurbished Kelvingrove Bandstand.

It saw 15,000 people enjoy 21 performances over six days from acts including Alison Moyet, Steve Earle and Teenage Fanclub.

Mark Mackie, of promoters Regular Music, said: “Building on the success of 2014, we are delighted to be returning to the beautiful Kelvingrove Bandstand for another year.

“This year will see us travel east to the Ross Bandstand which will also play host to a series of unique Magners Summer Nights concerts during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.”

Edinburgh festival-goers can look forward to indie favourites James playing Princes Gardens.

Led by Tim Booth, they enjoyed 20 Top 40 hit singles after emerging as part of the indie movement in the mid-Eighties. Hits include Come Home, Sit Down, She’s A Star, Say Something, Tomorrow, Sometimes and How Was It For You? Their album sales now stand at 12 million, with La Petite Mort released last summer.

Both events will host a Magners Village with a cider garden and street food with areas to relax and soak up the beautiful surroundings with friends. Gates will open at 6pm each night.
