Schools join Cumbernauld College battle of the choirs

WITH just one month left until the JustTechnique school glee choir competition, the contestants will be rehearsing hard for the big day.

The contest, organised by HNC Events students at Cumbernauld College and the News and Chronicle in support of its Guide Dogs appeal, sees seven primary schools form choirs influenced by US TV phenomenon Glee. The top prize is a trophy plus recording time in the Voice Jam studio, courtesy lead judge and vocal coach Chris Judge, while the runners up will also have a recording produced at Cumbernauld College. Further, there are trophies for the first, second and third-placed schools and every entrant will get a certificate and medal.

Battling it out for supremacy are Cumbernauld, Condorrat, Baird Memorial, Holy Cross, Whitelees, Millersneuk and Lenzie Moss Primary Schools. News and Chronicle editor Jack Shennan, who will be on the judging panel, said: “The qualities I’ll be looking for are star quality, and harmonious teamwork. Definitely no sob stories, please!”

The competition will be at St Mungo’s Parish Church on Friday, May 18, doors opening at 6pm. Tickets, £3-£5, can be purchased from participating schools or the News and Chronicle offices in Cumbernauld Town Centre.
