Snapshot of town on display

It has been put together by the college and Cumbernauld Community Forum – who now want lots of schools and local organisations to see it.

From the point at which the first sod was cut in 1957, the photographs tell the story of a town that grew out of nothing but flourished due to the determined community spirit of the hardy Glasgow people who flocked here.

All the photographs have been carefully selected from the North Lanarkshire Council archives.

They include now part of the town that are now defunct including Burroughs Adding Machines Ltd factory and The Golden Eagle Hotel - but also provide an insight into the earliest stages of Cumbernauld High School and Phase 1 of Cumbernauld Centre plus many more

Tomorrow, Thursday, the exhibition will be officially opened by North Lanarkshire Council’s executive director of environmental services Paul Jukes at 6.30pm.

The exhibition is expected to continue until the first week in December and anyone who wishes to arrange a group visit is asked to contact Cumbernauld College on 731811.
